To enforce knotted nets in the fishing industry, monofilaments are used. Polyethylene and polypropylene resist chemical agents, insects and mildew very well. Both materials display an extremely low water absorption and excellent thermal and electrical insulating properties. They can be spun dyed in a wide range of colours as well.
